Yeshiva College Playschool

We are thrilled to welcome Morah Janna Kirkel as our new Pre-Primary School Principal. Janna has always dreamed of advancing her role in education and, after 11 years in the classroom at Yeshiva College, she is excited to embrace the next chapter of her career. We wish Janna much hatzlacha and brocha in her new position. We have every confidence that she will take the Pre-Primary School to new heights. We thank Ruth Kirkel who has held our Preschool for the last 16 years and has grown it into the incredible school that it is today.

Our playschool is made up of two units, the younger playschool (from 16 months) and the older playschool (from two years). Each unit offers two classes with loving teachers and assistants who attend continuous development courses about Early Childhood Development. Our outdoor playground fuels our children’s energy and challenges them to develop key coordination skills and muscle strength.

Janna Kirkel

Principal, Yeshiva Pre-Primary School

Janna matriculated from Beis Yaakov in 2002. Thereafter, she spent two years at Me’ohr Teaching Seminary in Israel. She received a B.A. undergraduate degree in both Psychology and Education – Cum Laude. She furthered her studies by completing a post-graduate diploma in Foundation Phase Teaching, graduating with distinction.

Janna has been teaching at Yeshiva College at various levels in the Primary School for the past 11 years – both in the small and mainstream classes. Janna is a strong, committed, innovative and outstanding educator, who is loved by the parents and children. In recent years, Janna has taken a more active leadership role amongst her peers and in her grade group, in addition to curriculum development, innovation and technology. In addition to her experience, Janna embodies the ethos of our school, strong commitment to Torah learning and values, warmth and a love for both Yeshiva College and education.

Janna is married and is blessed with four children, all of whom attend Yeshiva College.

Janna’s favourite quote: “To love your friend as you love yourself, truly means to start with loving yourself. So too if you want to believe in something you must first believe in yourself.” Chazal

Sheila Sklaar

Menahelet, Yeshiva Pre-Primary School

Sheila has been involved in education for 40 years. For the last 26 years she has been teaching Kodesh (Jewish Studies). Sheila feels privileged to be in this aspect of education, as it affords her the opportunity for growth, new insights and understanding on a daily basis. This passion for learning is something Sheila endeavours to instil in the children she teaches. Sheila developed the Kodesh programme for the entire Yeshiva College Pre-Primary school where she was appointed as Menahelet (Principal of the Religious Jewish Studies). For the past 24 years she has continued to develop an enriched Kodesh Programme.

Sheila is qualified as Senior Primary teacher and a member of the South African Council for Educators. She has her A.T.C.L and L.T.C.L. in Speech and Drama through the Trinity College of London, and taught Speech and Drama privately from home. She also ran a Reading Enrichment extra mural, Eager Readers, for children from Nursery School age till the end of Junior Primary Phase.

Sheila enjoys attending Shiurim and reading and most of all spending time with my family and connecting with her grandchildren. She enjoys walking, yoga and Nia dance. She loves giving extra-mural Torah classes to children who are at remedial schools where they do not offer a Torah educations and to children who want further Torah enrichment.

Sheila is married with five children, while two of her daughters are currently living in Israel.
